New Regulation to License Telemarketing Industry

September 20, 2004

Message from the Minister:

I am pleased to share with you a discussion paper that describes a proposed regulation to licence telemarketers under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act.

This regulation will improve consumer protection by addressing fraudulent telemarketing operations. Conditions of these licences will also reduce the frustration consumers experience with the number and nature of some unsolicited calls.

Your views are important and will help us develop this new licensing regulation. Please send your comments by Friday, October 29, 2004 to:

Sincerely yours,
